Tribute to Luther Vandross", in stores September 20, 2005 on J

Luther Vandross was a complete craftsman with a special gift
given to a very few. You could not turn on radio without hearing
that immediate recognizable sound of pure magic. His penchant
for romantic lyricism was ever present in his song choices.

Alicia Keys reflects, "I felt his truth, passion and genuine clarity in
every note he sang."

Fantasia does a lively and energetic rendition of "Til My Baby
Come Home".  She says "this is such an honor!"  Donna
Summer who recorded 'Power of Love' says, "Luther was a
unique blend of heart and soul. He never finished a song until he
gave 100% of himself to it and was proud of  his work."

good friend.  Thank you.  We had fun recording."

I went on to explain to Najee that I had contacted Will Downing's
recording label
Verve for product and an interview with Will
but Verve vehemently denied both my request for
product and an interview with Mr. Downing.  Instead
Verve later
sent me LIzz Wright.  I was unequivocally blown away with but
not shocked by
Verve's very funky business practices.

Najee asked me if it was okay to share that information with Will

phone from doing the interview with Najee my phone rang and it
WILL DOWNING.  He said "Gatsby, I heard from my friend

Kobe Bryant Put the Final Touches on the Type of Game the
NBA Had Seen Only Once Before - Bryant Scores 81 Points
Singer Lou Rawls Battling Cancer
By: J. C. Lee
Jan 23, 2006 - Shortly after Seattle and Phoenix
played the league's highest scoring contest in 11
years, Bryant put the final touches on the type of
game the NBA had seen only once before.

Bryant scored 81 points in the Los Angeles Lakers'
122-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on
Sunday night, Jan 22nd, the second-highest total
in league history.

Only Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game stands
ahead of him.

Kobe Bryant, often unstoppable, played at a higher
level than even he imagined possible."It just
happened," Bryant said. "It's tough to explain. It's
just one of those things."

December 16, 2005 - Singer Lou Rawls is being treated for lung
cancer.  His estranged wife said he also has brain cancer
and suggested his condition is dire.

"Don't count me out, brother," Rawls said Thursday night from
his room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. "There's been many

they're still jumpin' and pumpin'."

John Levy is being honored Jana 14, 2006 with a (NEA) National Endowment
for the Arts Jazz Master Fellowship , and he will present his latest project,
VOCAL LEGACY, featuring
Henry Johnson and Clairdee, in their debut
performance at the International Association for Jazz Education’s annual
conference in New York City.

Levy says, “I remember when you could clearly understand all the lyrics and
every song was a story. With the distorted creation of Smooth Jazz, now all
you hear is the same repetitious pabulum that’s aired on commercial radio
stations, and this is NOT the legacy of the jazz genre. I’m offering traditional
jazz vocals by younger artists, with a contemporary edgy style to prove that
those days of great music are not gone. What I have packaged, and titled
VOCAL LEGACY, is a new twist on the classic jazz standards.”

Take the sassy irreverence of Carmen McRae and combine it with
Alicia Key’
s understated contemporary style and the silky soulfulness of Natalie Cole,
and you’ll hear Clairdee. If you liked the complex melody of
Joe Williams, the
soulfulness of
Lou Rawls and Bill Withers, you’ll enjoy hearing the voice of
Henry Johnson.

“It’s about preserving a musical heritage and nurturing the continued growth
of a musical art form. Jazz is timeless and the lyrics of the standards still ring
true,” says Levy.

When Vocal Legacy takes the stage, backed by a small combo known as the
Legacy Ensemble their performance will include duets as well as solo
selections from their respective CDs -
Henry Johnson’s Organic (featuring
Grammy-winning song stylist
Nancy Wilson) and Clairdee’s recently
released, Music Moves, recorded live.

Among the more established pros who have offered encouragement to Henry
and Clairdee, are
Ruth Brown, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Lou Rawls and Nancy
Wilson who says “In the tradition of all great vocalists, Clairdee infuses each
song while always remaining true to the song itself. "

It was
Joe Williams who encouraged Henry Johnson to start singing
professionally. Johnson explains, “Joe didn’t do sound checks, so I would go
and sing his songs with Norman Simmons. I had never sung in front of Joe,
but once he heard me he taught me phrasing, pitch, breathing, and delivering

The vast and impressive roster handled by John Levy over the past 50 years
includes more than 85 artists, eight of whom are already NEA Jazz Masters:
Betty Carter, Herbie Hancock,
Shirley Horn, Ahmad Jamal, Abby Lincoln, Billy
Joe Williams, and Nancy Wilson; and one more, Freddie Hubbard will
join the ranks with him in 2006.

Other notable clients on the Levy roster through the years include

Al Sharpton
I haven't done the things I've done to be in a
sitcom," Sharpton told the News & Observer of
Raleigh, N.C., in Tuesday's editions.

The Democrat, who has run for president, mayor
of New York and the Senate, was earlier this
month reported to be working with CBS on a pilot
tentatively titled, "Al in the Family" — an allusion to
the Archie Bunker classic `70s show.

"I'm not interested in being Archie Bunker, I'm
looking forward to becoming George Bush,"

Sharpton said, alluding to a possible future
presidential race.

The 51-year-old activist-minister said there had
been discussions with Paramount Television, but
those talks had ended. The show was to have
been about a family with "conflicting social and
political views."

one of the most renowned blues
musicians in the world for over 50

Born Riley B. King on Sep 16, 1925,
on a cotton plantation in Itta Bene,
Mississippi, just outside Indianola,
Jan 4, 2006 - 37 Year-old Dawna, the founder and publisher  of
"Her Sports" magazine from St. Petersburg, Fla., was justifiably
crowned Martha Stewart's Apprentice on the NBC finale show,
celebrated with champagne at the end of the show .

Truly Dawna has the fortitude and the attitude which is
probably why Martha Stewart named Dawna as her Apprentice,
beating out stuck-up and stuffy Bethany, the 34 year-old natural
foods chef from New York City.
Bobby Lyle
/producer arranger has developed an international reputation not only for his
dazzling piano technique, but also for his versatility and ability to constantly
reinvent himself.

“We’re very pleased to start a relationship with Bobby,” says Dave Love,
President of Heads Up International. “Bobby is such an incredible pianist, and he
plays with ease across a wide range of jazz. He’s also a great composer and
arranger who has much to offer.”

“I’m very happy to be on a label that has such a diversity of styles throughout its
roster,” Lyle says. “Also, Heads Up has a president who’s accessible and
interactive with the artists. Dave Love has a really progressive vision of how this
music should be marketed.”

Bobby Lyle was born in Memphis, TN, and started studying piano at age six when
his family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. After moving to Los Angeles in
1974, he began a nine-month tour with Sly and the Family Stone, and later a stint
with the Ronnie Laws Band.

This led to a meeting with Wayne Henderson of the Jazz Crusaders who took him
to Capitol Records for his first solo recording deal in 1977.

After three albums, Lyle returned to the touring circuit, hitting the road in 1981 with
George Benson. He followed this with extensive tours with
Bette Midler, Al
Jarreau and Anita Baker (all as musical director).

A recording deal with Atlantic Records in 1988 spawned six albums in nine
years, including The Journey, which became a # 1 jazz album in 1990.

Bobby Lyle received an Emmy nomination for his musical direction on
Midler's HBO Special, “Diva Las Vegas,” in 1997.  Lyle’s 2002 album, Joyful,
peaked at #8 on Billboard’s contemporary jazz chart.
Mary J. Blige, Joss Stone,  Anthony Hamilton, Bo

That I Am"
with CEO Clive Davis, who also
produced the multi-platinum and Grammy® award
winning albums "Supernatural" and "Shaman",
which have sold 30 million copies world wide.
'Twisted" with Anthony Hamilton most likely will be
the big hit for this popular flossed CD.
Dawna is Martha
Before naming her apprentice Martha Stewart told Bethany that she used too
much body language to say words that should have come out of her mouth and
that she had poor people skills.

Bethany became defensive when Martha asked her why she did not rightfully
thank her team for their hard efforts.  Bethany responded saying "they were
disgruntled and difficult to manage so I chose to get away as quickly as
possible", clearly another example of Bethany's haughtiness and inappropriate

Martha Stewart then turned to Dawna praised her for posing the skills that
would make her "fit-in" with the Martha Stewart organization.

many of the 9 tracks were first takes.  What I was trying to do on this project

something that is tangible that can't be explained. This is where the title

Opening track 'Atlantis" is a layered sound but don't be so quick to say it

number appear on a Caller ID system. Web sites have sprung up
providing Caller ID spoofing services - eliminating the need for any special

Quote "The way we handle difficult situations in life says a lot
about who we are. How we view them is also an important
element in how we will deal with adversity. Some events will wipe
out one person but will make another person even more
tenacious. That’s why I always ask myself, “Is this a blip, or is it a
catastrophe?” The question helps me to focus in the midst of
bad news."

Caller ID spoofing appears to be legal although many of its uses are not.

Caller ID spoofing Web sites are used by people who buy stolen credit-card numbers. They call a
service such as Western Union setting Caller ID to appear to originate from the card holder's
home and use the credit-card number to order cash transfers that they then pick up.

Caller ID is used by credit-card companies to authenticate newly issued cards. The recipients are
generally asked to call from their home phones to activate their cards.

In a typical troublesome case someone will be jarred in the middle of the night by repeated
telemarketing calls. They check Caller ID and calls that number back -- which is false --and starts
cussing out loud to the person at the other end on the line.

It is said that a hacker broke into Paris Hilton's cell-phone voicemail in 2004. Sources say the
hacker apparently called the celebrity socialite posing as a technical-support person from the
carrier and lured the password from somebody.

Pretext call is when someone poses on the phone as a customer employee or a regulator to
obtain personal information from companies and individuals.

Caller ID is a federal issue.
